27th Kolkata international film festival

27th Kolkata International Film Festival Finally to be Held from 25th April Onward


Kolkata International Film Festival which was supposed to be held on 7th Jan this year was postponed due to Covid-19. After assessing the strength of the pandemic the government was compelled to postpone it. 

Finally, it will witness its coming from 25th April onward. As per the schedule, the event will start on 25th and continue to May 1. This year, the film festival will celebrate the centenary birth anniversary of the world-renowned filmmaker, Satyajit Ray. 


Chairman Raj Chakraborty has confirmed the physical edition of the event. As there are fewer restrictions, people can go to the theatre to watch the masterpieces. Now, cine lovers see some excitement after announcing the film festival. 

The inauguration ceremony will be held at Nazrul Manch. As expected, there will be an array of masterpieces in this festival coming from various corners of the world.   

As per the original schedule, Aranyer Din Ratri is the inaugural film. Finland is the focus country. Some of the contemporary masterpieces such as Carlos Saura’s The King of All the World, Asghar Farhadi’s A Hero, Pedro Almodovar’s Parallel Mothers, Kiyoshi Kurosawa’s Wife of a Spy,  Juli Docournou’s Titanium, and others.   


“Sardar Udham” is under the Special Screening segment whereas Ishan Ghose’s “Jhilli (Discards)” is under the Innovations in Moving Images segment. Special Screening segment will also include Aparna Sen’s “The Rapist”, and Raj Chakraborty’s “Dharmajuddha” which is a tribute to Swatilekha Sengupta.  

The show will take place in various theatres around the city such as Nandan, Rabindra Sadan, Nazrul Tirtha, Calcutta Information Centre, Rabindra Okakura Bhavan, and other places.

Not only Kolkata International Film Festival, but there will also be another festival which is the 11th Festival of Five Continents International Film Festival at Satyajit Ray Auditorium from 27th March to 31st March. There will be other Mongolian and Japanese film festivals also in the city of joy.
