At first watch, I fell for the story and Johnny Depp’s performance. Here he plays a writer who lives in solitude. He has a cabin at a remote lakeside that shivers us being alone in such a  place. What’s interesting is the story is based on Stephen King’s novel. It’s a brilliantly crafted psychological thriller where a stalker blames the writer for plagiarism his work.

There is a twist at the end that makes us spellbound. From the beginning, it already attracts our attention with Johnny Depp lying on the bed and dreaming.

His habit with his jaw stretching adds an attractive attribution for his spectacular performance. Throughout the film, Depp maintains to keep his habit. If you haven’t watched this film yet, add it to your list because after you watch it, you will feel you were missing something.

With his every appearance, he blows our minds. Be it a small role in The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus or the big-budget Pirates of the Caribbean, Johnny Depp’s appearance on the screen has a different charm. Though the film did average at the box office, Blow is one of the delicate Johnny Depp movies. It’s a cocaine drama featuring Penelope Cruz, Franka Potente, Ray Liotta, etc.

It tells the story of George Jung who becomes a big drug peddler. As he earns huge money, his troubles also start to grow. It’s a simple story but has power in its plot. It’s an entertaining film whereas such a performance from Depp is not seen.

The Ninth Gate

Romans Polanski-directed The Ninth Gate doesn’t have any significance in Johnny Depp’s career. Yet, it’s an important film that exposes him to the European film industry. This film is a collaborative production between the United States, Portugal, France, and Spain.

It’s an interesting mystery thriller film where Depp plays Dean Corso, a rare book dealer who is hired to track down two copies of a text that contains the key to summoning the devil. As soon as he starts to work, he gets involved with a supernatural conspiracy.

Though the film didn’t get any huge response at the box office and also from the critics, The Ninth Gate is a different kind of film with supernatural elements in it. Its most interesting part is the occult with a mystery that drives the film to the end.

If you compare Polanski’s other films with this, you might be upset. It’s not the most remarkable character in Depp’s career but a memorable one.
