Chennai International Film Festival becomes 19 this time. Starting its journey in 2003, this international film festival has been an important part of worldwide filmmakers.

There are 121 films from 53 countries all over the world. The event has started on 30th December and will continue to 6th January.

Talking about the Chennai International Film Festival, there will be 8 sections.

  1. World Cinema
  2. Tamil Feature Film Competition 
  3. Spectrum of Iranian Cinema
  4. Retrospective of Director Caroline Link (German) 
  5. Coming of Age – French Cinema 
  6. Country Focus – Korea 
  7. Indian Panorama 
  8. Malayalam

Some of the films will be in the highlighted section. Those highlights will be on the Oscar Nominations and Selections, Cannes Film Festival – Winner, and Berlin International Film Festival -Winner. The highlight section allows films from all over the country. 

Three Floors directed by Nanni Moretti will be the opening film. The closing film will be Vortex directed by Gaspar Noe. The former was nominated for the Palme d’Or, whereas the latter was the winner in the San Sebastian International Film Festival 2021.

With 9 Iranian, 5 Korean, 6 French, and 4 Malayalam, The Chennai International Film Festival will enrich the show. There is a special screening of Dikkatra Parvathi directed by Singeetam Srinivasa Rao. There are 11 Tamil films in the Tamil Feature Film Competition section.  

Movie to Watch Out for at the Chennai International Film Festival

If you are planning about being a part of the Chennai International Film Festival, you should watch out for some significant films. 

  1. Three Floors – It was nominated for Palme d’Or at Cannes Film Festival. It’s a story of three families living in three apartments in the same building. 
  2. Lamb – It’s a horror drama exploring rural Iceland where a childless couple finds a strange newborn in their sheep barn. The story takes a turn when they start to raise it. 
  3. Parallel Mothers – Two women on a journey of giving birth develop a strong bond with each other. 
  4. A Hero – This is Asghar Farhadi’s new venture showing a prisoner trying to convince his creditor to withdraw his complaint about the debt he has given to him. 

The film festival has been an attractive place for filmmakers across the world. Another international prestigious film festival is on the list which is the Berlin international film festival.
