Gotham Awards 2021 announced Squid Game to win the award for breakthrough series over 40 minutes section. The other nominees were “The Good Lord Bird”, “It’s A Sin”, “Small Axe”, “The Underground Railroad”, and “The White Lotus”.
Already becoming the most-watched Netflix series, Squid Game is another web series that the whole world has cherished hugely after Money Heist Season 4 in the foreign language films category.
The director and the cast of the film were present at the award show. New York’s prestigious film The Gotham Film & Media Institute was the organizer of this award show. They selected 29 feature films, 16 series, and 32 performances for the show. It was held on 29th Nov 2021 in New York.
Among those selections, “The Lost Daughter” won the most number of awards including The Best Picture, Breakthrough Director, Outstanding Lead Performance, and Best Screenplay.
Where Kristen Stewart received this year’s Performer Tribute through her film, Spencer, Maggie Gyllenhaal received took more awards including the Breakthrough director. Other honorary performers were Eamonn Bowles, Campion, Peter Dinklage, and other significant names in the industry.
“The Lost Daughter” runs on Netflix. When accepting the award, “Squid Game” producer Kim Ji-Yeon said, “We’ve experienced so many miracles since we launched this show, … and the biggest of them is how much love and support you all have shown to a foreign-language series with a very strange title.” The award show was packed with stars.
Coming to Squid Game, the series has already grabbed the attention of millions of audiences worldwide. Starting with a simple game, it goes on digging a complex narrative. The series has already got over 1.65 billion viewers by breaking the record of Netflix’s most-watched series.
Fans all over the world have already started to show their obsession by wearing the same costumes. Just like Money Heist, Squid Game also acquired its own fan base with its unique presentation.
